ホテル Hotel – making a bathtub and a sink and Viola, the writer

Next I am working on a hotel bathtub, at least one bathroom sink and also Viola, who is a writer. Actual bathtubs and sinks, as anyone who ever did a residency with KOHLER in Sheboygan, Wisconsin knows very well, are being made in molds from industrial porcelain.

And many years ago I learned how to make since, complicated molds, not for bathtubs and sinks, but more for shepherds and shepherdesses, but it is good to know even if one fine day you need a miniature bathtub and sink. me being me, I skip about ten steps in the process to speed things up, that means that I have to improvise. Now, if I would make hundreds of mini bathtub, I would have to go about it a little different.

For just the one I prototype form stuck together from take-out containers works well enough.

This is actually not the “mold” for the tub yet, but the “mold for the mold for the tub”. Which then has to be filled neatly with plaster, and it looks like that:

I thought I would also make some cups, that is what the tiny hole in the surface is for, but they don’t come out right, so I need to think of another way for those.

In here is a plaster block that will become molds for two sinks, a smaller one and a larger one.

Here the tub, in porcelain. It needs sanding.

Here Viola, still missing arms and legs. Viola is a writer.

And so far these, tomorrow more…
