Studio KOMOREBI (Moving Images)

Our life is half natural and half technological. Half-and-half is good. [Nam June Paik]

Studio KOMOREBI is creating films and moving images exchanging human actors with self-made small-scale puppets from clay researching motion, movement, the human sense of vision, and visual memory. Technically this work is a form of puppet animation or stop motion animation, but there exist stark stylistic differences to conventional puppet animation (for example there is typically no linear storyline, comical or cute character design, or smooth image transition), and the inspiration for this work stems from avant-garde film and real life.
Projection and presentation format of the work to the audience are an essential part of the work, most of the films are not meant to be viewed on laptop of cell phone, please see detailed specification with each work.

“I create these films to explore and express reality as I experience it, dealing with topics I consider meaningful, not to fit into a specific category of medium. Ultimately I am creating the kind of films that I myself would find interesting to watch. For these reasons I refer to this work as ‘films’ or ‘moving images’ “.
