In early 2011 I was offered a solo exhibition at Art Forum JARFO in Kyoto. I decided together with a Japanese artist friend, Yasuo Imai, who had studied in Brighton/UK, to create a collaboration and show with the topic “What is the difference if I am here or not here?” On March 11th a sea-quake and tsunami destroyed great parts of coastal Japan and caused a melt-down in the atomic power plant Fukushima Daichi. We adjusted the content of our exhibition several times according to the course of actual events at the time. I finally had to leave Japan before the show opened. These are large scale graphite drawings, created as a series from the day of the tsunami on. They were eventually sent by FAX from abroad to the gallery during the opening night.
