3/11 Kyoto album – long stay and sudden departure

(In 2008/09 I did a postgraduate research at the Manga Faculty of Kyoto Seika University of Art. I am particularly grateful to Prof. Ogawa Satoshi おがわ さとし 教授, whose open-minded and positive attitude helped my project to be successful.
This time has to my own surprise turned out to be one of the most insightful and influential on later artwork, inclusive non-manga work.
The photos I took during that time were used as sketches for my manga project from that time, that is why I am not showing them here, skipping the actual manga here as well, but if you are interested to see it please contact me and I gladly show sample pages.)

From December 2010 on I was living again in Kyoto, planning to stay for six months and showing my work together with the Japanese artist Yasuo Imai in an invitational show in May at JARFO, Kyoto.

The stay was cut short by the 3/11 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident in Fukushima Daiichi. I left Japan before opening of our show “What is the difference if I am here or not here?” due to safety concerns. The exhibition was in accordance to the mood of the moment created as a live event.
