Milli Cartoons
These cartoons were complied in an album “It’s your own fault, that’s all I have to say to that! – A Manual for Falling Women and Others, who Appreciate Them” the subtitle later being renamed to: “A Manual for Women who Married an Aspi”.
During 2008 I developed the character “Milli”, a sweet, somewhat unsuspecting woman, in rather dysfunctional relationships, which she mainly endures with stoic pragmatism. Occasionally she finds surprisingly drastic ways to rid herself of her unsatisfactory male attachments, but since her existence weaves in and out of the dreamlike world of the subconscious mind we can assume they are happening only in her imagination, and this, if not all of it, is nothing but a dream.
Everyone in Milli’s world is naked, to emphasize vulnerability and emotional directness of human being, but this also adds to THE SURREAL feeling of it.
The series of “Milli-Cartoons” was abruptly interrupted when my house was robbed by my unexpectedly meth-addicted neighbor at the time. I consequently fled into postgraduate research in Japan gaining some distance and concentrating on other aspects of life, so my style changed and I developed “Usagi-chan” and the bunny-eared people.
