ホテル Hotel – making of Molly – Vol. III

Finally Molly is complete, all s/he has to do now is dry and be fired and be decorated and re-fired and get wired and dressed and get a wig and pop up at the hotel, where she is somewhat awaited, after her dramatic letter…

Special features of Molly are:

  • a movable jaw (same as Billy)
  • triple jointed torso
  • most challenging because of scale: a movable left hand with movable thumb

IF all of that will actually work as planned in theory only time will tell, but, just as real life, my concept of these puppet set and possibly everything art is if it is supposed to have anything to do with real life on earth is mustn’t be too perfect anyways.

Here brand-new Molly’s feet; I know a podiatrist who has a foot-fetish, which always makes me laugh. When I was very little, four or five years  old, I had a foot fetish as well, and the most exciting think on earth to me where fairy tale books with illustrations of princesses in heel- and toe-free shoes. Not being aware at that age what sexual attraction is anyways I had no understanding of the whole thing and what was about; at a later age until now I am no longer focused on feet, shame in a way, as I can make feet relatively well and I could make myself a ton of little clay feet, but OK, we can’t have everything in life, even if it would be so practical.

Molly’s left hand I had to repair so far twice. As opposed to feet I am crap at making hands, but working hard on getting better. The trouble is with photographs of puppets, even if everything is not so great from an anatomical viewpoint, most faces are plausible, because we are subconsciously aware of the fact there can be all sorts of faces out there, but hands give it away. So, if one day you meet a person and think to yourself “Is s/he real? Or a puppet or doll?” I recommend check the hands, because the hands will give it away first.
